    Hello,
It's true to say that the M40 visored cap was much preferred by the men, but many Panzer crews retained their tropical sidecap as it was easier to move in the tank or watch trough optics. Later on the western and eastern front, Panzer crews have worn a mix of sidecaps & M43s and sometimes on a photo one can see a Panzermänner wearing his black Einheitsfeldmützen with the visor at the rear for the reasons given above
    Thanks

Indeed - a bit of research and there's a few images out there of the sidecap in wear. Here's one from my collection.
