IMO I think you are right as for the lower ranks in the army,,,my thoughts of the cross would not appear in the political spectrum,,SA SS HJ etc, because of political doctrine. Thank you for correcting me! Larry

ofttimes sa, nskk and doubtless hj and other deceased members of political orgs. had christian funerals in churches presided over by priests or other christian prelates. I'll always remember when I paged through a 'signal' magazine or similar official propaganda mag and spied a pic of kneeling ss soldiers in russia taking communion from a heer chaplain. set me back, it did! (himmler too, we daresay.)

The way I understand things, Ordained Priest's would wear the "gothic device". These would be "Lay people" and might not wear it. I am unsure of the answer and have posed the question to Chris Liontas who is well knowledged in the aspects of the German Chaplin.

no I just meant I wish it was chaplain or something else more collectible than medical -- tho too right this is a very nice example. still just doesn't quite come across as cornflower blue kornblumenblau to me..... hope as ever springs eternal!

I now have this identical hat in my possession! I am leaning more towards violet than cornflower blue on the piping.A similiar hat is
currently on Oakleaf Militaria listed as chaplin's assistant with very similar waffenfarbe color shade as my hat.I bought this hat as medical with " violet" waffenfarbe. Whatever it is-it is. I like this hat alot.
