Winterized (padded) version of feldgrau overseas cap?

Article about: What do you guys think about this version of the overseas cap? I've never come across a winterized version - perhaps custom, perhaps completely fake? Thoughts? Thanks! Dzyner

    Thumbs down

Neat looking hat, BUT in 65+ years of collecting I've never heard of such a hat.
IF very cheap I'd buy it as a fake oddity just because if is kinda neat.

Ps Why would anybody fake something so unusual? If it is a propers item perhaps an inservice mod by unit tailors or an actually issued version the value would be in the rarity.

Just to fake a single item would not be econimically viable (unless it is something like Hitlers underpants) so to make profit it would have to be made in quantity and we would see more?

All sorts of irregular/modified items were used on the Russian front; anything to help stay alive.

Me too. Definitely a field modification and an interesting piece attesting to the lack of proper winter clothing available.

I think my only caveat would be if this is Swedish or similar hat , doctored with period insignia . I agree it wouldn't be worth faking from scratch , but Lipstick on a Pig ?

I have seen padded and quilted caps that don't fit the mold. I like this one too. Really, too odd to be a fake cap and the cloth does not look Swedish to me. NH
