The fake ZO-cap from post 6 is obvious for various reasons, especially the lousy workmanship.
The color for the top is not correct, but I have seen an original one, which has the about same
color. The cap band color is too light and if I see correctly the cap band with the fake cap is
missing the pipings (or am I wrong here)!
This is the other ZO cap I have seen. No photos of the inner were included. So, it's up for
opinion! Without seeing the inner I can say I can live with it! As so often the inner wire has
been removed.

Paul just told me that the other year he had about 40 rare caps on his table,
just for showing. This is what he said:
I brought two floor cases filled with the rarest caps I owned. White top SS general,
Teno generals. Simply to display. Perhaps 3 people stopped to look. I've never
understood and still don't.
This says enough about the knowledge of over 90% of the collectors. Most
have no idea, but do not even buy a book or subscribe to a magazine to
"gulp down" information. In my opinion such persons should not ask
on forums, nor should be given a proper answer! And when a proper answer
is given, they do not have the decency to say "thanks".
Sorry, this is just my opinion.
I understand your frustration. We are grateful that the level of inquiry is higher here than among the broader public.
Thanks for posting such interesting material and thanks for your decades of scholarship.

I don't have any frustration about this. It is just an establishment!
If collectors are not willing to learn, so be it.

Wim, it is endemic in the hobby. The "instant gratification generation" does not want to learn, they just want answers, and demand them "now".
& if they do not get the answer they like, they will try and try again, hoping for a different one.
When they do get the answer they want, you will rarely get even a "thanks".
This thread is a perfect example of this:

Wim--
The hat in post #11 is in the 1997 Moran/Maguire headgear book, and was owned by an Irv Marine.
The book shows 1 pic of the interior, and it is unmarked.
However, I have no doubt it is a good one.
If you want me to scan the photo, let me know and I will try to do so tomorrow.

I know, the photos were already send too me by my friend DRK and yes, the cap is correct.

Wim, saw that, just wondered if they had given you an actual print date. Let us know when you know, thanks.
