Canadian 303, + badges

Hi,
Well i had some good deals last weekend i thought it would never be as good, I took an old denazified R.A.D. buckle iv had for ages
and swopped it for some nice U.S badges im not really into U.S stuff but they looked good. The guy showed me a rifle he had
i asked if it was for sale or exchange he didnt mind, I went home and got some old kit i had, ie Chasspot bayonet 1876 matching No,s, a J Patt, pilot knife and a cockade for a Lufty peak cap.
Well i walked away with a Long Branch Canadian 1944 303,
Deac. It is in good condition and the woodwork is nice,. One more for my bunker, Great Joy.

thanks i couldnt believe it when he said he would swop the rifle,
It needs a bit of a clean but on the whole it is really nice.

Watch out for weak or broken extrecter spring of you fire this weapon.

Hi C-patriot,
Thanks for the advice but it is a deac, (unfortunatly ) i would love to fire it but thats the way it goes. Were they made under licence from Lee enfield ?, as i dont know much about the long branch.
But it is good for a swop, I dont think my luck will last to much longer as iv had two good weekends.

You have a very nice rifle there !

I should inform you however, pretty sure all of the US insignia is mostly
of recent, if you did not know this already. ( Have to see the backs of the
Lt. and Capt. bars and Infantry collar pins to be positive...)

Hi W-Wolf,
You are right i think as all the insignia has the small round clip on
backs to them, so they must be modern type. I dont usualy collect U.S insignia but they look pretty good to me so i thought it might start some other type of collection. I have been pretty lucky the last two weekends with swops, I was out with my brother last night and talking about what i had got, when this man says it was,nt possible to swop a rifle for a bayonet ect. When i thought about it it does seem a bit off the mark, and thought that maybe others thought the same way. the reply was on my grand childrens lives it is true, but in hindsight i dont care if he believed me or not. If i was looking at a ww2 set of badges what would i have to look for ? your aswer would be helpfull.

Hi C-Patriot,
I have three enfields and today i stripped ond cleaned the rifle i got on sunday, I have a question for you Enfield guys, i have never taken any notice of this before but thought i would ask?.
On the bolt housing there are two holes on the left hand side.
One has a small screw bolt in it and the other is just a drilled hole,
what are they for as they do nothing, is there a reason for them.
I have seen rifles with housing for scope mounts but i dont think this is the answer. It is a silly question i know but there must be an answer.

I will post a thread on US WWII insignia if you like, as I have
been collecting it for some time now, esp. rank insignia but
specializing in pilot wings.......

Most modern examples, of which I will also show, are clutch-back,
plated and have manufacturers code numbers on the back.

Earlier types are usually pin-back and of "precious metal" ie: sterling
silver and/or gold plated, with makers names and/or logos on the reverse.

There are many, many types to be found from all eras.
