    Posting a small collection of medals to men who served in the Grat War.First up is a 1914 star trio to Pvt. George Meldrum 3022 of the 4th reserve battalion of the Connaught Rangers, George was a 33 y/o joiner from Church St, Sligo, Ireland, who would have had previous service in the Connaughts and was called up as a reservist at the outbreak of war in August 1914.He landed in France on the 7/10/14 and was killed in action on the sixth of November 1914 while serving with the 2nd Connaughts.Medals to Irishmen in WW1.Medals to Irishmen in WW1.

    Very nice groups, to a uncommon regiment I have a few Connaught Rangers medals mostly singles. Thanks for sharing

    Sergeant Michael Boyle from Foxford co.Mayo died of wounds on the 19/11/1917 while serving with 1st battalion Royal Irish Rifles, went to France post 31st December 1915 and may have been killed from injuries sustained by shellfire while on a fatigue party that was bringing up rations.

    Pvt.Lawrence Lyons from Ballinagore Co.Westmeath was a private no.12058 in the 8th battalion Welsh Regiment and was killed in action on the 8th of August 1915 during actions around Chunik Bair/The Farm, his battalio suffered over 300 casualties that day and were less than 2 days in Gallipoli.

    Some interesting items. I don't collect these but I have had some over the years. It is great most British/UK medals are named and can be researched. Same with the death penny.

    Pvt.Patrick Joseph Quinn a 20y/o from Dublin in the Manchesters,there is also a cutting and picture stating he died later in a casualty clearing station from wounds received.

    Lance corporal Patrick Francis Duffy 22859 8th Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers, 16th Irish Division, landed France Dec.1915.He was a 24y/o from Bawn st, Strokestown,Co.Roscommon when he was killed in action on the 27/4/1916 near Hulluch, the 8th Dubliners suffered over 180 men killed (approx 400 wounded) during attacks on the 27th and 29th april 1916, the germans made heavy use of chlorine gas on the 27th using 3800 canisters, heavy casualties were attributed to the poor quality of the British gas masks, but the line was held by the 16th.

    Pvt.John Francis Tuohy from Kiltimagh,Co.Mayo number 27451 1st battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers, was killed in action on the 27/5/1917, he is commemerated on the Arras memorial.
