I expect it would be some type of branch
    insignia - Engineers, etc.........

Could it be Officer insignia by any chance? The seller thought he might have been an Officer, I'll send him a message if he knows anything.

I don't think so, because the holes are horizontal. The only other ranks
that usually have horizontal pins are: 'Lieutenant' ( Captain in the US
Army ), 'Captain' ( Colonel in the US Army ), or 'Admiral' rank stars,
    which is unlikely !

A rare set of insignia for 'Commander' or 'Lt. Commander' ( Major
and Lt. Colonel in the US Army ) may have horizontally
mounted pins - Most are vertically aligned.

The US Marines 'EGA' insignia pins are also vertical, or there
is only one single screw-back post.........
    Regards,

    Steve.

I also bought an M1 helmet(I couldn't help it, it was cheap, 80 $ with shipping). It will need a little restoration, but I don't mind. Dose anyone know what the "E-45" stands for?

Thanks, I love it as well. I bought it at a militaria and arms fair for about 250 £, he had about 10 of them, none of them had stocks. They were almost all caked in with rust/mud like substance. There were a couple that had the sling buckle thing on the side of the forward grip, if I am not mistaken, that would mean they were issued to the british. I did not know that at the time and I picked out the one in the best condition. I bought a new stock and brushed away most of the rust/mud and I think it turned out pretty good.

    After the first cleaning:

it has been the other way around as well which means it has been in service before 1945 by a Norwegian soldier.
    I believe it's a 1947 Pattern Battledress, made 1947-1949, so it couldn't have been used pre 1945.

    Nice collection

I thought it would be. I bought it at a militaria and arms fair. I trusted the seller because he seemed to know what he was doing and because he had a lot of other original stuff for sale. I was a fool, it was a couple of years ago, I had done no research and I trusted the seller more than the item. I am not sure if I will keep it or not. I might keep it until I get an original battledress, or I might sell it to cover some of the expenses of getting one.

    I've done some shopping again.

I think I will turn the M1 Helmet I just bought into a Vietnam helmet, and try to set up a Vietnam uniform after a while.

Therefore I have bought a helmet cover and helmet cover band. I still need chinstraps, but I have no idea how they would look and how to attach them, if anybody knows of any that are cheap, let me know.
