I wonder what happened to this man. Did he make it home? Was he tried for war crimes or did he meet his end in the East?
For what it's worth, probably not in the East.

I can't read the last date in the above scan, but the SS-Dienstalterslisten tell us that was definitely still alive on 1st October 1944, when he was serving with the Befehlshaber der Waffen-SS in den Niederlanden.

He is seen in this photograph over on the AHF:

I was trying also to make out that last entry, but, sadly, it is just a Bit too smudged to make it out. Perhaps if it were manipulated with photograph enhancements it could be deciphered, but I'll leave that to the young digital wizards of today to tackle.

Had a look at this thread again. It is great to see the development of collecting
    from DrCMH.
Great displaying. This is how I like it: accurate, well provided and clean!

Great to see the cuffband with "West" and the great, original RZM poster, hanging
at the wall. A most interesting piece! Saw one at the annual show at Kassel some
years ago at the stand of Peter Jenkins. I am glad I have a perfect copy of the poster!

Thank you, everyone, for the kind words. Wim, I am glad you are happy with the reproduction from conservator, it was important to me that you had this for your records. I was fortunate to secure this unique item from Peter and I was very fortunate to have the further information from you regarding the release from the RZM.

It is important to keep these things preserved as best as possible, especially as they continue to age and become even more delicate.

Thanks again to everyone for their kind interest and participation in all of this. Any success in collecting I have had has been a result of this and, in a way, my collection in partly yours as well.

    Best regards,

    CMH
