Cheers, seen one with the same camo cover guess it must be nam era, thanks for your help and super collection by the way, the helmet ive seen is for sale in the British Heart Foundation of all places, might be worth a punt.
The USMC covers with that pattern were used from WWII through Vietnam. The example I have was the last pattern manufactured, exclusively by Blue Anchor in 1953.
Make sure not to confuse it with the Mitchell Pattern used from 1959 through Vietnam, as the USMC covers command a lot more.
Side by side below to show the difference between the two (beach and jungle sides). I've also attached a photo of the ERDL pattern which eventually replaced the Mitchell pattern.

That would be the Mitchell pattern. It's a short flap (Meaning flaps are shorter allowing for the chinstrap. Earlier versions had long flaps and slits had to be cut to accommodate the chinstraps) so would date from 1969-1976. There would be markings on one of the beach side flaps that would provide the contract date (see photos below).
The photo of the liner BHF has isn't the best however I don't believe it is a US liner. Were it me, I would stay away from this one. Not sure how much Vietnam era M1 helmets go for in the UK, however here in the US, complete sets (shell, liner, chinstraps, cover) can be had for as low as $30 on sites like eBay if you're patient; emphasis on patient.
