James John Vickers-Willis - He was born in Mill Hill, England, and they migrated to Australia with their parents at the age of seven.
He was educated in Melbourne at Brighton Grammar School and Haileybury after the family moved to Australia in 1925.
He worked as a journalist for the Sun Herald, Melbourne, and during World War II served as an instructor and RAAF pilot.
After the war began a new career and became the most popular singer and one of the largest paid artists in Australia.
At the age of 36, he contracted polio and this ended his artistic career. The doctors gave him about 5 to 10 years of life, but he challenged medical opinion and lived for more than 50 years or more.
Besides being a famous singer was also an avid nudist.
He was a candidate for the Australian Senate in 1967.
He died at 90 years old.
