I've heard about all the bad language. Digging around
for booze and drinking was a favorite pastime
    as well.........

Today I took some pics of the MB. Since the early summer
when I dropped it off for repair, my nephew and his wife
bought a house and had a baby, so progress on it
has been held up for some months.

He's finding minor problems as he goes, mostly common
things that can be fixed quickly and relatively cheaply,
such as pins, brackets, seals, U-joints, etc. Best to
address these issues while assemblies are
    dismantled.

The new gas tank fits as it should, and now has correct
hold-down straps - a new seat pan will be perfectly
aligned and tack welded onto the original
    seat frame.........

    Nice Steve!
It looks pretty good underneath considering it's age.

Thanks Ralph. The 'tub' as it's called, was hand made
by a local restorer/parts dealer, as the original floor
    was almost completely rusted away.........

That would explain it, although the frame and the rest look pretty good anyways.

All this jeep talk has made me pine for my long gone 1944 mb.

So.... I scored this from a friend to use as 'yard art' ( & something to rest my beers on as I work in the shed and daydream )

Nice original pieces Dan - the grille especially - and those
fenders are in excellent shape. Genuine parts are drying
up and getting difficult to find these days !

Before I decided to have this jeep restored, I tried to
estimate what it might cost to have one made up
entirely from parts - repro, NOS, used/take-off.
I think it was around $15,000 back in 1998.
    It's likely twice that today.........
    Regards,

    Steve.

The fenders and cowl are actually not that good Steve but everything is repairable with effort. There is still a fair bit down here, so much so that these were bought to strip fittings from and I paid the princely sum of $50 (the grill was mine leftover when i sold my jeep 10 years back.)

I've also seen someone make the same parts you have into a U-shaped bar but I can't find the pics anymore.
