More pics of the repair work. What started out as a 'couple of things'
becomes much more as my nephew tears away. As he says - and
I agree with him - ''We might as well fix it while we've got it
open, and you'll never have to worry about it again''.
He texted me the 1st pic below of the transfer case in pieces
and said "Crap, how does it go back together ?" Lol.
As well, a shot of the correct Willys MB crossmember in place,
instead of the CJ-2A type that was there when I bought it
back in 1999 (!) and the 4x4 lever mount, which when
heated to remove the pin, was found to be badly
cracked, so it will be replaced with the good
one shown just behind it.........

Ah yes, the simple but frustrating gearbox and transfer case. Dont forget the idler shaft flat lock plate that gets sandwiched in place...... a world of pain if you leave it out.... I remember it well.

crack from a too bigga engine (off now)
Looks like it could be welded? Always a shame to bin an original part that might be repairable, they don't grow on trees anymore.
Indeed - one thing I've learned is not to throw anything
away ! Some old parts which are broken and seem
useless can be made serviceable - but we might
as well use the better one here.........
