Suitable metal detector for a teenager

Hi,
I'm looking to get a basic metal detector for one of my teenagers. It must be an easy to use one and lightweight ish so she doesn't get put off. It will be used on both soil and beach.
Any recommendations?

Hmmm....

Soil and beach ? That is difficult as most low price, easy to use detectors do not like wet sand. Too much mineralisation.

If you just want to get him interested, Maplin used to do some really cheap MDs for £40, £60 and £80, depending on the level of difficulty you wanted My brother has the £80 one and does very nicely with it
