Very nice plaque, Just for comparison here is a photo I took mid 80's of a border post/plaque on the inner German Border whilst on patrol. Remember seeing one for sale in a militaria shop in Soltau soon after. Rumour also has it that my Brother in law has one tucked away somewhere which I would love to get hold of.USSR 1946–1956 Border PlaqueUSSR 1946–1956 Border Plaque

Thank you for sharing the photos of the plaque Robin! I'm on the lookout for a DDR plaque too.

I wonder if it's genuine. There seem to be a lot of casting flaws, although maybe that's normal for these. The quality is quite a bit lower than that of your Soviet plaque.

I'm not sure. It could be possible, that these are being faked as they have gotten more collectible value lately. I will try to dig up more photos of confirmed original DDR plaques and compare.

They are faking most anything remotely valuable these days. The current bid price (about 75 USD) is more than enough to inspire fakery, sadly.

You are right. I will have to try and do some research on these. It's true that plaques of this style are easily faked, as the detail in the first place wasn't that big. Along that it wasn't a shiny metal piece.
