    Hi guys,

I've recently got this zinc erkennungsmarke.

My question is that I've not come across a 539 Infantry Regiment.

Anyone have some thoughts as to this sample.

I cannot comment on the disc, but the regiment existed:

    Infanterie-Regiment 539

Reassigned in Oct '42, that's how I missed it.

The disc stamping looks fine to me. I'll ask for others to comment.

I like the general look of the disk. It is an odd placement for the blood type.

I agree with you for the placement of O blood type. Typically it's below or distant from another number on the tag. Have you seen this before.

The look of the stampings appear to be a good period sample.

The blood type was stamped with a different stamp set so even though the position is odd I think it is OK. I do not recall seeing any others like it, yet.

I don't see any red flags, thankfully it's not SS or some famous unit so you should be comfortable with it.

The number of faux SS discs out there, it's a head-shaker. Most of these frauds can't see that educated collectors can quickly laugh at their attempts. Though, I'll say they are unfortunately getting better. We are getting better at spotting them too.

This one looks fine, although it is always worth asking as even the common units are faked now. Such is the interest in tags nowadays, even ordinary tags command high prices. So if in doubt ask or share your tags, or shame the fakers.
