It reads- "Staff Company" "Grenadier Replacement battalion 216" the "O" is blood type and the "5852" is the soldier number.

Not quite right Eike. Its marked Stamm Kompanie, the organic depot company that the unit was formed around. The Staff company, or Stabs Kompanie is the commander of the unit, including the admin staff for the unit. Nice original tag.

I should have been more clear, Staff and Stamm and Stab all have different meanings in the Wehrmacht than the literal German has today.
