    Hi Joseph,

That's 2. Kompanie Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 474. Nothing looks odd about it- very, very rarely are common units like this one faked, so I doubt there's any real chance it's not real. On the Lexikon site you have to look in the Heer section, for Ersatztruppenteile I think it is and Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillone; you'd probably get it at the top of the hits list if you just search for Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon 474 though.

Not much of that really applies or is of great interest though since in the German system, soldiers went to a local replacement unit and were issued discs there- but they didn't really 'serve' there; they were trained and sent on to advanced training or the front- but kept the replacement unit discs usually for their entire service time. The last 5 lines indicate the various field units this replacement unit supplied, so this soldier could have been in any one of them- or some other since wartime pressures likely had men sent where they were needed, not just where they could have gone on paper. The main other useful thing we know is that it was issued before 7. November 1943, which was when the term Infanterie was changed to Grenadier. From the roll number I'd guess maybe mid- late-1941?

You can look up the information on Infanterie-Regiment 474, 537 and 627 since they were probably the field units that received replacements most from IEB474- they're where the more interesting probable history of this soldier would be.
