This half erkennungsmarke is from the Stamm Kompanie, Panzergrenadier-Ersatz-Bataillon 4.
This unit was formed as Schützen-Ersatz-Bataillon 4 and on 5. July 1942 was renamed in Panzergrenadier-Ersatz-Bataillon 4. Here is a link to the info:
Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 4 - Lexikon der Wehrmacht
In my opinion the emarke is fine. But if it were me I wouldn't use a marker to highlight the stamping.
Regards, Rik
so do you believe the dog tag is authentic?
Yes, even though the stamping has been marked so you can not see the details of the stamping, I say it is an authentic erkennungsmarke.
The black pen is a bit of a mess, but it is a good one.
I think this one heralds from Wehrkreis ii and when first formed in 1939 in Kolberg it was called Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 4. In 1942 it became known as Grenadier-Ersatz-Bataillon 4, which is when I would suggest this ekm dates from.
Use toothpaste mixed with baking soda. This will dissolve the marker ink.......
