EKM: 1/ Inf. Ers. Batl. 487.

Hello folks.

This was a little extra something thrown in with the K98 pouches. Half a ground-dug tag, apparently recovered from the area around Stalingrad. This is my first EKM. I understand that 'A' indicates the soldier's blood group, but am not very familiar with regimental designations, or what the number above the regiment indicates.

Well B.B. it is a nice original erkennungsmarke from 1. Kompanie Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 487 (Infantry replacement batallion 487).
The number above it is the soldiers rollnumber, this was also written in his Soldbuch.

How rare would a Gebirgsjäger EKM be? I'd like one to go with the setup I'm putting together.

Gebirgsjäger erkennungsmarken are not that rare and you get them for somewhere around €40 - €50.

Also appears that either the owner has added his blood group to the rear of this ekm or else it might even be an initial "A" - it is larger than the blutgruppe mark on the obverse so was added later.
