Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings
I belive it was not used as a sleeve shield, it is too big and also as it is made of brass, it weights too much. Maybe it is part of some kind of decoration, sports trophy or something similar. Anyway - very nice finds!
Paul did you get that from Aleks? It's like the bent one he had at the Kurtna fare, right?
Looking for the photo albums of Leutnant Emil Freitag, 3. / G.R. 377

That 'lion shield' looks great.
Awesome tags/shields. Lucky finds
I promised to post some photos from my small collection. Tags are broken but there is an interesting story - all this lot was found from Klooga training camp area. Estonian Ost Batallions were sent to the 20-th Waffen SS division and so probably soldiers just ritually got rid of their old Erkennungsmarken. Most of them were not very happy to join Waffen SS. There were much more broken tags found from the same place but I have only some of them. These EKM-s belonged to the fighters who were mostly in Russian front from the year 1941 and were lucky enough to see their homeland again in 1944. Most of them took part in later terrible fightings in Narwa front and many did not survived. So for me personally this little collection has a special value.
And some more. Just arrived yesterday.
