Gestapo Warrant Disk. Real or Fake?

    Hello fellow forum users,

I have found a site that claims that this is an original Gestapo warrant disk. My knowledge on the subject is limited to knowing that if the disk has a maker's mark on it, it's fake, but that's about it.
As a result I am hoping that someone with more knowledge on ID disks can say whether this is authentic or not.

    Thank you in advance.

From these small and less clear than ideal pics I believe this to be a fairly poor casting which would of course mean that it is fake.

I am sure I speak for other members when I say I would be very interested to know which dealer is claiming this is an original. It should be a good coloured nickle silver and well defined (even when worn) die struck piece which this clearly is not. That is quite enough to put me off even before looking at the details of eagle design, lettering font and serial numer format.

I would be keen to hear what others who have particular interest in these think but it is definately not one for me.

These tend to be amongst the more expensive TR pieces so one must be certain before buying.

    Regards

    PS This is helpful.

Lacks the crispness of originals. From the pictures supplied I would call it a duff one.

Give us a clue mate. Who is hawking this "gem"?

If you don't want to say it in clear just be cryptic I reckon we will work it out or maybe PM me.

It is good intel for the collecting community as it helps to guage the reliabitity of a dealer in the absence of personal experience.

It was listed on LiveAuctioneers: Bid in Online Auctions & Research Auction Results .

While it doesn't explicitly state that it is authentic, it doesn't state that it is a mock up either. This is quite a shifty manoeuvre that is obviously trying to sell it off as genuine as it's only description is that it's condition is 'pre-owned'.

Having scrolled through other Gestapo disk and police badge listings on the site, quite a few of these badges seem to be one of those Polish-made fakes with the maker's mark under the eagle, everything else on the site, however, seems to be legit.

NOTE: I am not trying to bad-mouth live auctioneers, they seem to be a very professional and legit site and I do recommend them. However, these Gestapo and Kripo disk listings seem to contain a lot of fakes.

    Thanks for that.
To be fair they probably don't know but it is no excuse to hide behind "Caveat emptor"

All the more reason for us to be careful and know what we are buying.

Some auction houses do go the extra mile to know what they are selling and specialise in each different area. These should be the preferred choice (Eh Ade?) for whatever you are after.
