Hi, I just thought I'd reply with a pic of a genuine tag ( shame it's in two bits) that I found with my detector on the site of an old pow camp. It'll give an idea of what real aging looks like. I don't know what the numbers are but at least it's real.

I have a list but it's not mine to give out- I recall hearing it's printed in Jean Höidal's second edition book on Erkennungsmarken...

I have a question, was looking over some WWII German Dog Tag selling places etc....Looking to get a better understanding about deciphering them. Here I came across this as a "RARE ORIGINAL" what is your views on it....

Junk. This unit is faked lots and so far as I've ever read, there are no discs marked like this. Note the 'halo' around some of the letters- especially visible on the bottom half- this is an indicator of an old, perhaps original blank that's been stamped more recently; the force of the strike has flaked off some of the patina. Also 'Fall.' is not a normal abbreviation for 'Fallschirm' and the Umlaut is missing over the 'A' in 'JAG'- not unheard of as a slip, but usually more idicative of a fake.
