Hi all, I have come across a few uncommon disks in some I was sorting out recently. Any assistance in thier identification would be helpful.

First a Turk volunteer I think (does anyone know why it says JANOW?):

This disk looks exactly like a WW1 type but it is aluminum and from volgagrad, any idea what this guy was doing or why there is no unit?

"WMA Schweidnitz" means Wehrmeldeamt Schweidnitz [= military draft board Schweidnitz]. Schweidnitz is the German name for Świdnica in Lower Silesia, today Poland.

Not a guy: Hedwig is female first name. Apparently some sort of auxiliary.

That would be the Flieger-Ausbildungs-Regiment 11 [airmen training regiment 11] at Schönwalde.

    That's the Polizei-Waffenschule I [Police Weapons School I] at Dresden-Hellerau.

As for the first one, I can't come up with a definitive explanation of the abbreviation, but if I absolutely had to make a guess, I think a plausible explanation for "MSCHB" could be Marschbataillon [personnel replacement transfer battalion]. [EDIT: That was rubbish. Forget the last sentence and see post # 8 for the real explanation!]

Thanks for your insight, I appreciate it!

Do you think it would really be : Marschbataillon battalion?

Forget my first theory... I've got it now!

I really should have taken a closer look at the disc. It does not say "MSCHB" - It says "NSCHB" for Nachschub [= supply].

As for the "TURK" and the "JANOW": Nachschub-Bataillon 522 included 2 Turkistani companies; Janów in the then-Generalgouvernement was the battalion's garrison. See:

Nachschub-Bataillon 522 - Lexikon der Wehrmacht (German language)

5 for 5- very good Mr. Lovecraft

The 'Fr.' on the Polizei-Waffenschule disc is just for 'Freiwilliger'
    Ohhhhh- pillage then burn...
