Very ''tough world'' indeed, this original dogtags world

I'm not an expert at all, and i'm the first to admit that i've just started to built up a documentation regarding all kind of militaria stuff (including basic knowledges about fakes, by reading a lot of material from this incredibly useful forum), and also just started a little collection.

As i mentioned in another thread of mine (related to dogtags boughted from romanian flea markets) all those tags were bargains, so i hardly can considerate that i had material loss. Other tags which i bought were confirmed as originals (but coming from more obscure units). When something from an well-known unit came up, as the SS Nord group, the luck unfortunately changed

In the same lot it was added also this tag.
That LW tag gets about a bit. Was sold on Ebay from Estonia last October!!

Yes, i know the provenience of the LW tag, i posted it in this thread only to highlight the fact that beside some good tags (i presume that the LW one is ok) in the lot were introduced some fakes also, expecially whet it comes about well-known divisions. From the same lot 2 more, the Jag, which i truly doubt, and a romanian one, which i'm sure that's genuine.

Don't know much about Rumanian tags, but they both look OK to me, the other being 3rd Kompanie, Panzerjager Abt 2

The Romanian one is for sure genuine. Do you think that the Pnz Jag is good? At first sight i tought that the engravings looks a bit fresh for its ''declared age'', but in the same time i saw many good tags which looked pretty ''new''. I doubt the Pnz jag also because itz nr.666, which looks a bit like something that must catch your collector eye ''wow, i would love a Panzerjag tag numbered 666 the number of the beast''

The SS NORD tag initially posted at the beginning of the thread, looked suspicious since i put my hand on it; its weight wass strange, very very light compared with good ones.

I attach here two more pics of the Pnz Jag, in order to do not open another thread.

    many thanks

Ers ---- Ersatz (Replacement), like I'm sure we all know

Too bad about the Nord tag though, looking for one myself but I find them all a bit too expensive...

weight of tags can vary, as can materials used, normally zinc or alloy, but examples can be found in lighter grades of alloy, or even in steel.

Research and experience count for a lot!

keep yours eyes open for any other kinds of tags, many US aircraft came down in Romania, you might find American tags too!
