Could anyone help me out with any information on an id disk please. It's in fine shape but I think it may be from a local official rather than military. Completely stumped.

    The complete stamping is:

    OB MATR
    Schneider Heinrich
    3047.C.1
    ESCH 1/TAUNUS

    Thanks very much. Bevo39

No, not Kriegsmarine; they used very small discs and the text on them was rather different. That looks like a WWI style disc so it appears to be Kaiserliche-Marine; the multi-colored cord fits too since those were used in WWI, not WWII. It's definitely military and definitely naval since his rank is there: Obermatrose. I'd see if the WWI folks can help with the rest.

Sorry, should have got back to the forum witht the result, that is bad of me. Inconclusive I'm afraid. The chaps over at the WW1 forum confirmed German Navy and that the disk was of WW1 style as was the red/black/white chord attached to it. But couldn't say for certain. Thanks for all the help though, excellent site!!

Bummer- I guess you need a Kaiserliche Marine unit expert to idenify the unit.
