Original or faked Officers dog tag

can anyone tell me if this is a genuine or fake Erkennungsmarken.

I picked this up on Ebay ages ago with some other pieces supposed to be related to the same person.

I like the look of it, could be right but it will be WW1, something privately knocked up.

Switch it to the imperial forum some-one there will know for sure.

This came with a Third Reich / Imperial Ribbon bar. Could it be possible for this item to be carried through if he was a staff officer?

Jock's right, it's a WWI piece- the early large form befor the Trennschlitzen for breaking a disc and the bottom hole were added to the design. I wouldn't doubt it's original- it certainly looks well-made (the engraving looks to be hand-done) and it's hardly the kind of thing fakers usally go for. Since the guy was only a Leutnant in WWI, it's certianly reasonable he could have been a rather higher rank in WWII and still serving- the disc wouldn't have been used or worn, he'd have a Wehrmacht one, but this might just have been kept as a memento of his first wartime service.

I think the unit may be Füsilier-Regiment or Feldartillerie-Regiment Prinz Heinrich (von Preußen), which were both in the Reichsheer so that supports the idea this man continued his service after WWI.
