Hi Bob, I have often though of buying an example of a POW tag as I find them an interesting subject. But I know nothing about them, so that has aways put me off from taking the plunge.

I don't know if these are faked, but I would suspect they are as almost everything else is!

Can these be researched at all? I know basic research on the camps themselves will be online but that is all I know.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Ade,

I don't know if the POW camp records, kept by the Germans, survived the war. Other than that source, I do not know.

I got one from Stalag 17, which was in a pile of stuff I had bought years ago. When I bought it, I was not aware of what the tag was for and kept no record of the former soldier.

I have also wondered if they could be traced.

I rather doubt these are faked- regular Heer and Luftwaffe units aren't hardly, and POW, RAD, etc. are even less-popular so the market is pretty tiny- fakers tend to stick with SS which is still super popular for some reason LOL

You're probably safe going for one.
    Ohhhhh- pillage then burn...

I am sorry but there are fakers who are producing false Stalag/Oflag dog tags too.
