Thanks Jay, we all appreciate the compliment.
And Eike41- well it's normally thought that units did issue new discs with their information as replacements, but what's so difficult to believe about one simply not having any so the guy responsible for making/issuing them just opting to make a quickie up like this? Nothing in peacetime is ever done 100% the standard way, so in a war, in the field, surely things like this are pretty easy to see happening? In truth it makes more sense to recreate an original disc as it removes one level of complication to identifying someone- instead of going to the field unit, then back to the replacement unit, one goes direct back to the main record. The only reason I can see units issuing new discs with their information is that they can thus keep a stock and remove the necessity of some guy having to make new discs for every case of a loss.
Ohhhhh- pillage then burn...
Matt,
Thanks for your insight I can see the logic in that. The way that disk is made looks OK to me. I have seen similar field examples. The hand made snap line looks like others I have seen (albiet they were straighter). I am not an expert but I hope to be one some day!
Thanks for all the insight guys . I believe its probably a replacement tag.
