SS dog tag???

Is this a real SS dog tag and from what unit could it be?

I'm doubtful of it- there's a light area around much of the lettering and on the back which makes it look like an old disc that was stamped more recently- the impact of the stamping causes the patina to come off.

Been looking around on the 8th SS Florian Geyer in my books. Im finding items on the Arty group but not the "POL". Have to agree with Matt on this one. He knows his stuff through and through. I too would pass.

The unit did apparently exist- but the only hit I got when I searched my reference was a town listed as where it was stationed; oddly no actual details about it.

Ah, well SS discs are a very tough place to start if you're not just an SS collector; if you are, it's not an easy road and you definitely have to be extremely careful- always seek opinions before buying
