SS dog tag in unexpected location.

Article about: Thanks for the reply, hope to get a photo when I get round. Its a complete disc unbroken. Post pic as soon as I get it.

    Not the german grave registration but the US grave registration those guys pick-up alot of stuff.

    Why would US grave registration take an German identity disc (over any other 'souvenir' hunting American soldiers that is)? You'd think they'd only be formally interested in and have time/use for US ones, no? Or is your meaning that they have more access to general stuff so 'souvenir'ed more than most?

    And the number is high compared to the average, but then most units have a Kompanie level roster, but it seems SS-Pz. Gren. Ers. Btl. 9 had only one for the entire Bataillon of probably 5 Kompanien (Stamm and 1. - 4.). That being the case and it being an Infanterie-type unit, it's not ridiculously high; I have a disc from a general medic unit that's over 20 000. The slash after the number is an interesting marking- can't say I've seen that before.
    Ohhhhh- pillage then burn...
