    Well no, it didn't belong to any Division; it's simply the SS-Pionier-Ausbildungs- und Ersatz-Bataillon, which would have provided replacement engineers to any unit in the Waffen-SS the same way any of the other single specialist replacement units they had did. It's not even the case that if there was a Bataillon number would it necessarily be associated with the Division of that same number- sometimes it was simply a sequential number as these specialist units had to increase in number.

    SS-Pionier-Ersatz-Bataillon

    * 1939 in Dresden; April 1943 geteilt in die SS-Pionier-Ausbildungs- und Ersatz-Bataillone 1 (Dresden),
    2 (Prag) und 3 (Krakau); siehe unter diesen Nummern.

    Interestinly, one from a different Kompanie was discussed a while back: 5 Kompanie SS-Pioner Ausbildungs und Ersatz Bataillon "6080"

    That one looks pretty real, although it's still not certain I think; and although yours is a different Kompanie, clearly the very high roll number demonstrates the unit had one central roll, not several Kompanie-level ones and thus would have had a central supply of discs too. The numbers are definitely different, as are some of the letters, but some do appear to be the same- the P, the E, and maybe the whole Btl, which looks to be one little stamp because the letters are so straight, and the dot at the end is tall not round like the others. Interestinlgy, it's the few lower-case letters that are different on the 3. Kompanie piece, so it's possible the lower-case set or the few stamps they had were lost or otherwise required replacement between numbers 5257 and 6080. And the A is different on both as well- and in neither case matches the other upper-case letters, so it would seem there was a mix of stamps, including a square and a round dot. Very weird LOL At least there nothing obviously suspicious to me about the way the stamps are mixed.

    Hi Matt and thanks for the effort. Really appreciate that mate.

    Pity that is not a Wiking tag as i was told, but still a nice one and the picture taken while digging is a real bonus.

    I googled the unit and searched the Lexicon der Wehrmacht, but couldn't find anything more than what you have posted already.

    The Dresden Schule was the main Training school for Waffen SS Combat Engineers hence post war the veterans assocation became known as Pionierkameradschaft Dresden !! Wonder why you were told this was a Wiking Tag !!

    Sure thing I wonder too why you were told it was Wiking; it's not technically impossible since Wiking doubtless had some engineers, and if it's something like the area was known to have been occupied by units from Wiking, maybe it is true- but the disc itself doesn't suggest any field unit in particular.
