Welcome to the forum. That disc is a common fake- the font is easily recongizable; in fact I posted a picture of one of these bad Florian Geyer discs there to illustrate it. German eBay is a decent source for real Erkennungsmarken, but don't bother with SS anywhere- 99.9% are fake.

Nope- don't like it. 'SS' is part of every SS unit's official designation, e.g. SS-Panzerjäger, SS-Pionier, etc. and it's missing on that one. Plus it's a field unit and that's not usual either. The stamping overall doesn't look right to me and if the picture were better, I'd bet I could match the font to another fake. The price is an indicator too- real SS stuff is worth quite a lot, so if the guy's starting at 15 Euros, that's not a good sign.

That's a good point- 'Der Führer' was an Infanterie and later a Panzergrendier-Regiment in the 'Das Reich' Division; there were both motorcycle and recon detachments in 'Das Reich' but each simply bore the number '2'.

It's a lesson in the very first thing that you should consider when looking at a disc- did the unit even exist.
