Can anyone tell me what the markings on a German WW2 dog tag mean, top row-96 , A (to the right), bottom row- IV/XVIII.L.SCH.BLT.16.KP, any help would be appreciated.

Sure- the 96 is the soldier's roll number; A is his blood group; and the unit is 16. Kompanie, Landesschützen-Bataillon VI/XVIII. A simple Internet search for the unit (without the Kompanie) will give you its history (one of the first hits will probably be the Lexikon der Wehrmacht site).
Ohhhhh- pillage then burn...
Thank you very much, do you have any knowledge of German ww1 tags? I have a ? in Imperial Germany and Austro-Hungary forum.
