Here a little story from my time in German years ago.

I used to go hunting with my uncle for Deer and wild boars, but some time we would go on drive hunts in the area of Koblenz.
That is where we became friends with Adolf Galland. Mostly because of my uncle last name Keffer that was Galland Nickname. For years we would hunt with him with other ww2 German vets great times.
We were the only Americans there and I was the only kid.
Very special times to me .
In 1989 I received my hunting permit after taking all the tests and passing them at age 18.
I was invited to a gasthaus to celebrate getting my permit by some of the guys.
Where Galland and other of our German friends were.
Galland and Boris came back from the kitchen with a plate with a boiled cow tail for me to eat .
They saided I had to eat it ,it was custom.
I am still not sure if this was a tradition or just to get me back for the time I brought ROOT BEER to a drive hunt and told them it was American beer.
Boris was in the SS in the Eastern front good guy .

I hope you guys like the story.
I was just thinking of it today.

Enjoyable story and interesting driving companions! Don't know about the cow tails but no blame on them for the root beer.....couldn't stomach it either for many years.

It is very sad, indeed, Very nice memorable story though. My Grandmas brother fought in the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler, and I know a guy from the SS Estonian Legion. But I don't have great memories like that. Savor them my friend.

When i was in Boy Scouts, we were on the damn cold campout. An elder made this soup that smelled so good, but he wouldn't tell us what it was till we had a full bowl. Delicious as we warmed up. Turned out to be Ox Tail Soup.
