    Just read about the passing of one of the few Battle of Britian veterans left. Basil Gerald Stapleton DFC (Dutch), here is a link to some of his wartime exploits. Apparently a BBMF spitfire will be attending his funeral.

    I'll miss seeing that glorious handlebar moustache, i wondered if he was off hooks when he wasn't in the line up of BoB pilots in the 'News of the World' last week....Farewell 'Stapme' and Blue Skies.

    RIP , the like of these guys will probably be never seen again.

    Met gerald many times one of the finest gentalmen i have ever met
    will always remember him singing night and day by Cole Porter
    the drums will beat in memory
    He was the iconic image of a fighter pilot
