Hiya, Thought you might be interested in seeing my uncles D Day Logbook entry, he flew Mosquitos with 605 Sqdn, he and his observer Roy Phillips were killed on 26th June 1944 when their craft crashed in flames about a mile downline from Margate Railway Station. That's him on the right, he was 23, and his observer was 21 when they died, Jackie is buried in Hemel Hempstead Cemetary. BTW, he was a NON smoker and tea total too...he thought a pipe was the "thing" that made an RAF pilot, look like a pilot..I have the letter from him to my gran about his pipe, and that he had NOT started smoking, so she was NOT to worry... cost him 1/-...

BTW, It was Merville Battery they were attacking...

Thanks Norrie for sharing that pic and logbook. The pipe does make him look a little debonair doesn't it!!!!

That's great you have a pic of your uncle. May He Rest In Peace.
My avatar is of my Uncle Joe. B17 tail gunner. His B17 exploded after an attack by Me109's on a mission to Schweinfurt.
His MACR he filled out after the war said he was blown out of the "Mrs Geezil" when it exploded in mid air. He did survive but was a guest of the German Government for the duration of the war at Stalag 17B.
These Gent's were so young and the feats they performed is so mind boggling when I look at my Young Marines at work.

It is Alan, I have made it my life's work to keep the memory of these young men who lost their lives in the service to their country. I'm a member of the NexGen on the 384th Bomb Group web site. Our goal is to honor all that served during that time living or dead as those who were there are passing at a very sad rate and unfortunately they will be no longer with us to tell the stories of their amazing courage under fire. I am what they referred to a combat data specialist . I added the names from copies of the original loading list for missions they flew. I considered it an honor to do it. Well the main reason was that my Uncle Joe only had 13 missions on their data base and I knew he flew more than that. He flew 25 completed missions , If you count the last one he was shot down on. I have a great source who is the left waist gunner that day and he shared info about that day. That explained why my Uncle would never speak about his time there. 4 out of the 10 men crew died in that day. 6 out of 7 B17's shot down from his squadron. He only spoke about the funny things. They were so young! I look at my Marines and think No way would I be a crew following this 20 something kid. But I know that during tough time's boys do become Men. In my eye's they were the Greatest Generation that ever lived.
