Hi all , i dont know if anyone else saw this today, there was a flight of 6 propeller driven aircraft that flew over my house today heading North, i couldnt ID them as they had passed before i got out in the garden, a few hours later another 3 passed over but these were Yaks, same direction of travel, then late afternoon my friend phoned me and said i was to go outside quickly as there was a private jet with 2 fully armed tornados as escort heading my way, i heard them and saw what looked like a lear jet with two Tornados one either side in formation, and yes they were fully loaded with ordnance on pylons, that is very strange to see this over my way , i see warbirds literally every week of some description fly over but never a private jet with a fully armed military fighter escort, does anyone have any additional info

    Hi Dave,

It was the flypast for the ending of Operation Ellamy, the prosecution of the no fly zone over Libya. There was a ceremony in London for it.

    Ministry of Defence ‏ @DefenceHQ

As part of Op Ellamy (Libya) homecoming, 1 Sentry E3D, 2 Typhoons, 1 Sentinel & 2 Tornado GR4s will fly S-N over Parliament at 1745.

You probably saw the Sentinel with the two GR4's, roughly around the above time?? Dunno what the crack with the Yak's is though...

Here's a pic of the flight from Twatter.

    Regards, Ned.

Thanks Ned, well that clears that up, i thought we were being invaded, no i dont know about the Yaks either but there are a couple at North Weald that fly over pretty often along with a Jet Provost, what the other prop craft were i have no idea but six all together made one hell of a racket, but music to my ears, and Adrian, you could be right about Ade, i bet he was telling the pilot to" get a spurt on Lez has my tea ready " lol
