A Ju-Air Junkers JU-52 ("Tante Ju", "Auntie Ju"), registration HB-HOT performing a flight from Locarno to Dubendorf (Switzerland) with 17 passengers and 3 crew, impacted terrain near N46.9022 E9.2247 and came to rest at an elevation of about 2540 meters/8330 feet near Martinsloch/Piz Segnas (Switzerland) at about 16:50L (14:50Z). A Rescue and Recovery operation has been initiated. No survivors have been located.

Local Police confirmed a Junkers aircraft crashed at Piz Segnas, no further details are known, 5 helicopters have been dispatched for rescue and recovery. Police later added, the wreckage is at an elevation of 2540 meters at the western flank of Piz Segnas. A flight restriction to protect rescue and recovery operation was issued.

My thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic accident.

Sadly, it has already been confirmed by the local police that all 20 people on board died in the crash.

What a shame. A horrible end to those seeking the thrill of flying in a JU.

A truly, truly tragic accident. Having just been up in a vintage plane, it absolutely chills the blood. A horrible end for all those involved, but perhaps they at least died doing something they had a great passion for. My thoughts are with those friends and loved ones they have left behind.

A news article on the subject: Vintage Ju-52 aircraft crashes in Swiss Alps: 20 dead - SWI swissinfo.ch

'The craft was constructed in 1939, and before Saturday had flown for 10,187 hours.'

The plane was never in German service; it was delivered to the Swiss Air Force in March 1939 where it flew under the registration number A-702. Its factory build number was c/n 6595.

I also just learned that it was used in the movies Where Eagles Dare and Valkyrie:
