L4 grasshopper and pilot

Steve, I have been very fortunate in that over the years I have
known several vets. Most have been very willing to share some of the there experiences with me. Owen, has lived across from me
for 25 years and we have become friends. I find it very interesting
that he was on was Patton's pilot and he has some great stories.
But I also enjoy just hanging out. He would much rather talk about his collection of fishing lures. We go to auctions together
when there is fishing tackel, marbles or militaria listed.

He's just a nice old guy to be around.

You are very fortunate, as he, to have such a good friend. I only wish that I had someone local like him. I have one person who I admire immensely for his service and correspond with quite often, but unfortunately our exchanges aren't able to be face to face as we are a few states apart.

Do you think there's any way he would consider traveling to San Antonio for an event on April 3rd honoring Liaison Pilots? Will you put a bug in his ear for me?

His wife needs almost round the clock care. She would not be able to travel and I know he would not go without her. I have tried to get him to go out fishing (his favorite past time) for a whole day and he would not do it. He is completely devoted to looking after her.

Sorry to hear about your friend.
I learned to fly in an L4 in 1955. I've also flown a Fiesler Storch and I very much disagree with him about it. It is a incredible A/C to fly and is very pilot friendly. Find another A/C that you can make climbing turns - with 3 people on board - at 35mph! With a 20+ knot head wind I could hover the A/C almost like a helicopter.

Thanks Steve,
The funeral was this afternoon.
The local VFW honor guard stood post and the casket was flag
draped. A fitting sendoff for a man who was very proud of
his service.
