Only just saw this now I'm back- thanks for the offer! I hope you enjoyed your visit. I went to see the Hurricane, and my friend allowed me to go off to see the fly-past on thursday morning! I'd have quite liked to have been at the lecture and the ceremony, but as I mentioned I was there to see my friend. Definitely some good timing there though.

Here's pictures of me by the Hurricane, and then the fly past.

Thanks! It didn't cross my mind to check the local papers for related articles, I can imagine there were some interesting stories though! One of my neighbours served in the RAF during the war and was stationed in York for some time, and he's told me of some of the things he got up to... including him and his friends 'borrowing' a truck, after finding one on their way back from a night of drinking! He drove it down to the river Ouse, before they took it back. It was returned in one piece, which is impressive considering it was also the first time he had driven anything! He said it was being investigated by the RAF police, but they never found out who was involved, and he was transferred to somewhere else in the country shortly after. He said it was the only thing he regrets doing!
