Sounds like a very interesting bloke!...
A bit of trivia, he was buried in Arlington cemetery close to the plot of legendary world heavyweight champion boxer Joe Louis. A friend of his who was standing there during the internment later commented that "Ol' Pappy wouldn't have to go far to find a good fight".
'I do not think we can hope for any better thing now.
We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.
Last Entry - For God's sake look after our people.'

In memory of Capt. Robert Falcon Scott, Edward Wilson, Henry Bowers, Lawrence Oates and Edgar Evans. South Pole Expedition, 30th March 1912.

I saw him interviewed on "The Tonight Show" by Johnny Carson.
He was indeed quite a character.

I read/watched several interviews with him, and the one line he said that I liked the most was " The Japanese did one thing nobody else could, They made me stop drinking"

And if anybody is interested VMA 214 is stationed here at MCAS Yuma and now fly AV-8B's. The history display they have in the Top side of their hanger is very impressive along with their current tours of duty in the sand box.
VMA 214 Black Sheep,VMA 311 Tomcats and VMA 211 Wake Island Avengers along with our newest VMFA 121 Green Knights are here. So if your around my parts let me know and I'll give ya the Grand tour.

I would love to someday make it back down to Yuma. I was just a kid
when I lived there but I have some very fond memories of it.
