A bit of trivia, he was buried in Arlington cemetery close to the plot of legendary world heavyweight champion boxer Joe Louis. A friend of his who was standing there during the internment later commented that "Ol' Pappy wouldn't have to go far to find a good fight".by Gunny Hartmann

I saw him interviewed on "The Tonight Show" by Johnny Carson.
He was indeed quite a character.

I read/watched several interviews with him, and the one line he said that I liked the most was " The Japanese did one thing nobody else could, They made me stop drinking"

He was an annual visitor years ago At the EAA fly in in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. I had a chance to meet him and buy a copy of his book which he autographed for me.
