RAF pipe with hidden compass.

Hi All, what a great site!! My father recently passed and i came across a pipe, i remember him showing to me when i was young, he told me they were given to pilots in the second world war, can anyone please shed any light on this ..

Hi Ned, thanks for getting back to me, hopefully the pics are ok,
the sleeve that hods the compass is broken by the looks of it, the broken piece is in the other bit of the pipe.

I've always liked little items like this that have a hidden secondary function, I'm sure that "Grimebox" who collects escape aids such as this will be interested in this thread

Thanks for sharing it with us, I'm going to keep an eye out for pipes that look like this now, I wonder how many people have sold/thrown away pipes like this thinking they're nothing special?
