What happened to all the Spanish HE-111?

I recently bought a new TV, a 47 inch and watched the Battle of Britain blu ray movie on it. To say that I was blown away is an understatment!

Must have watched that movie a hundred times but always on a crap TV, never the big screen. Well, watching it on my new TV took my breath away but even more so, I wanted to watch the added features on the blue ray.

I had no bloody idea at all that they had 40 to 50 HE-111 available back then due to the Spanish Airforce still using them for pilot training.
You guys have to watch the extras on the movie DVD/Blu Ray because the out takes are even more incredible that the footage in the film.

For instance, when the BF109's shoot up the airfield at the start of the movie, in the outakes, they are flying even lower, I mean 20 feet off the ground!

But the question remains, where did all the He 111's go?

Hi Ben,

There are around 14 CASA 2's (Spanish built He 111's built under licence) left in various states of preservation around the world either on display or in storage. The last flying example I can remember crashed around 10 years ago in Colorado on it's way to Missoula, Montana for an airshow I think. Don't quote me but there may be one in the pipeline somewhere up for restoration to flying condition, but I'm not sure if the plan is still a goer.

I was told by someone on the film that the leftover HE-111 were broken up for scrap as homes couldnt be found for them ,

Oh My! What a shame if they were scraped.
That would be like scraping some just found tiger tanks.
If only people had some forthought after the wars end.

Agreed.
I've read accounts of Allied soldiers bulldozing for example rare Kurt Tank designed FW high altitude interceptors into a corner of an airfield just to prevent others using them in the turbulent period immediately after the war ceased.
Gut wrenching for an airplane buff to read.
