    Hi Adrian

I know nothing about these badges, but the last couple you have posted do not seem to have the same quality of finish as earlier war era ones - though having said this, I still like them!

    Is this the case?

    Cheers

These are late issue badges dating from the last 20 years of the USSR. The ones from the 50's and 60's are a bit nicer.

The quality is nothing like as nice as wartime badges though. Very much like the British Army badges of the period, a bit cheap looking to be honest.

    Cheers, Ade.

Thanks for the feedback Ade - I thought so as well.

Some of the war time badges you've posted are pure works of art IMO.

    Cheers

I think a lot of the early pre war and wartime badges benefitted from the Russian tradition of jewelry making and enamel work. One only has to think of Fabergé. Later on the country was broke and the quality declined.

    Cheers, Ade.

Interesting observation and one that I had not thought of TBH.

Pardon my ignorance, but did the House of Fabergé make awards at any time?
