Order Red banner, Rear stamped 7
I am interested in purchasing a Order of the Red banner on which I have noticed that the number 7 is engraved in the middle of the reverse of the order, A search on the forum has not turned up anything similar and I was hoping that someone here would be able to help with what the significance of the 7 is. Apart from this everything else appears to be in order.
many thanks
Robin

Hi Robin...any photos, as i have not seen any before with single numbers....Darren

Hi Darren,
I will try and sort a photo. The 7 is not part of the serial number. The serial no is engraved in the style you would expect and where it is normally located. The 7 however is at an angle and some distance away.

There's a great topic on GMIC about these marks on OPWs (not sure if I'm allowed to link to other forums?): Soviet Orders Marks : Order of the Patriotic War - Russia: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations - Gentleman's Military Interest Club
Similar marks can indeed be found on Red Banners (usually in the center of the reverse).

I have one (1944 issue) with a small micro stamped number "4".
It is my understanding that these are some sort of inspection marks. Anyone have any real info on this?
