What period is this Alexander Nevsky star from?

Hi,

I must confess that I don't know anything about Soviet/Imperial Russia badges, and am wondering if you can tell me anything about this badge other than it appears to be the Star to Order of St. Alexander Nevsky. I haven't seen this version of the award. I assume that this was awarded during Soviet times, is this correct?

hi , looking at rear, it is to my eyes a cast copy , bubbles in the casting , center post off line and the enamel work is not up to the standard i would expect of an imperial or soviet award....cheers paul

Founded by Czar Peter I., ukase of the Czar Alexander II, August 5, 1855.

Yeah, copy of an Imperial award. Look for a hammer and sickle, a red star or a "CCCP" as these always identify a Soviet award.
