    That's an interesting one. Hopefully Tony E will be along to confirm, but could the D be Dominion Cartridge Co., Brownsberg, Quebec, Canada ? It would then follow that the numbers were batch numbers and a date. Possibly

    Tony E is the guy for this one though. I look forward to him IDing it as it will add to my knowledge as well

    Could also be an early Dutch contract......Pete.

    It is a Dutch military round made by Hirtenberger at their Dordrecht (D) plant in Holland. It was probably made for the Air Force as they had .303 Vickers and Lewis guns on their aircraft.

    Beware though, because of the similar case length it is very easy to confuse Dutch .303 with Dutch 7.92x57R that their Air Force also used in machine guns.

    Many thanks Tony - a mine of information as always. Can I just ask about the numbers stamped on it - is the manufacture date 1934? what about the '25' - a batch number?

    Yes to both of those. I think one "34" is the case manufacture date and the second the filling date.
