Chromed Artillery Shell - Please Help Identify

I was hoping for some help identifying the shell I found in the basement.

I have no idea if it's real or a replica, or if real whether it's LIVE - but from the weight, it feels like solid steel.

Only identifying mark on it is the "E16" stamped on the bottom.

Any info would be most appreciated.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

I have uploaded the pics for you.

I cannot help on an ID: but you are safe as the item has been fired. Note the driving band has the impression from the barrel's rifleling.

Solid shot would indicate an Anti Tank round.

To know what the calibre is, we need a measurement taken in front of the driving band. The measurement taken at the rear of the "boat tail" is sadly not much help. I would guess it is around 75mm?

It's a 75mm AP shot projectile for a Sherman tank. Solid and never contained anything apart from a small tracer element in the base...now gone. But please don't EVER think that because a shell has been fired it is safe. The simple act of firing arms the bore safety aspect of fuse, which can be either in the nose or base of the shell. If the shell does not then detonate the spring detente inside the fuse is poised, ready to start the explosive chain.

I'm looking at a pic of a 75mm shot projectile for a Sherman tank on eBay and it's identical, minus the chrome.

I have to admit, it does look kind of cool, with the chrome plating. Would make a super paper weight on a desk!
