Does anybody know what these are? Parachutes in a can!

Article about: Hello, does anybody know what these are for? I assume they are some part of a parachute mine. The cans are slightly bigger than a can of tuna. The lid comes off but is attached to the parach

    Used on flares american but were used with british ordnance also.

    Thank you Spotter. You have solved the mystery! (The copper pin that I thought held the lid on looks like it must be the 'arming line' - I just need to find a 20lb fragmentation bomb to attach to it now!)
    I'll have to find something else from my collection to bamboozle you!

    If any of you 'ordnance' chaps are interested I have posted a letter from a very distant relative giving details of what it was like living through barrages and shelling around Bayeux in 1944 (Link below hopefully!)
