The tool looks like the type to tighten the base plugs of the Mills 36 British Handgrenades.

now I am wondering if the tin cap may be related to some fuze box or something similar. I still cannot read what's on the top. The rings still remain a mistery: I found many of them in the years.

The only word I can make out on the tin is " Remove" what is the size?
The Det tins that came with the Mills, to the best of my knowledge, were square

it's approx 7 cm of diameter. i can read : TO OPEN THE TIN REMOVE LID AND *** UNTIL POINT DIRECTLY FORWARD
TO REPLACE LID PRESS LIGHTLY AN***
